Study of the Relationship between the Use of Virtual Social Networks and Social Identity of Students

Abstract

One of the most fundamental issues facing today's society and social identity is that with the arrival of virtual social networks major changes have occurred. This issue, more than any other group, is of great importance for youth social identity because this stage of life, identity and independence issue is the formative stage. In this context one of the inalienable phenomena in the world, including our country, is the increasing use of virtual networks (including social networking and mobile computing). The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between students' social identity and status of virtual social networks. The study sample was130  students in management in 1394. SPSS software was used for data analysis. In order to assess the dimensions of social identity markers of ethnic identity, religious identity, national identity and global identity is used. It is also used to assess the status of virtual social networks of self-made questionnaire. Also measured by Cronbach's reliability evaluation results show that Cronbach's alpha coefficients using a social identity is 0.717, and evaluation of the use of social networks 0.778, which shows a good level of reliability. The results showed that among all the aspects the area of social identity, the national identity and religious identity, and the use of virtual social networks and there is a significant positive relationship. The stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that among the measures proposed in the field of social identity regression model was the only component of the global identity.
